We have a new member of our Apiam Swine vet team – please welcome Dr Amanda O’Rafferty.
Amanda joins us from Wagga Wagga, NSW, where she grew up on her family’s sheep and cropping farm and also completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University in 2023.
Prior to her veterinary studies, she studied a double degree in Arts/Law in Armidale, NSW.
Her interest in the pig industry began during her veterinary studies.
“I spent the summer before COVID working with the nucleus herd at PIC in New Zealand,” she said.
“I helped to start setting up their SPF (APP) herd.
“Then, I continued to undertake placements at Rivalea and Apiam, and also spent my summer break working on pig farms in NSW.”
Dr Amanda will be based out of Apiam’s mixed animal clinic in Dalby, QLD, split between mixed practice work and collaborating with the pig team in Toowoomba.
“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to learn from senior vets at Apiam,” Dr Amanda said.
“As a new graduate, I have lots to learn and I am looking forward to working with the team.”
In her spare time, you will find Amanda enjoying trivia, reading true stories, taking her dog for walks and getting to know her new surroundings in Dalby.
