The Apiam Swine and Poultry Team, Perth, are excited to welcome veterinarian Nandi Van Wyk to the team.
Nandi was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. Nandi completed an Honors degree in Animal Science before transitioning to Veterinary Science, graduating from University of Pretoria’s Onderstepoort campus in 2016.
Nandi spent two years working in New Zealand predominantly with dairy cattle and then relocated to Australia in January 2020 where she took a position with Apiam Animal Health to work as a mixed practice clinician, dividing her time between Echuca, Kyabram and Border vet clinics.
Nandi has always had an interest in pig health and production and saw the position with Apiam’s pig team as a great opportunity to diversify her veterinary skills and pursue her interests.
Nandi, has hit the ground running in WA and is already delivering value through farm visit consultations to both pig and poultry farms as well as contributing to the Murdoch University pig and poultry teaching program delivered by Apiam. The team in Perth will actively mentor, share knowledge and upskill Nandi as she transitions into swine and poultry consultancy.
Nandi is also the worthy recipient of the Australian Pork Research Institute Ltd (APRIL) Industry Placement Program Award. The program is designed to attract and retain graduates with a passion for pork production as well as develop their interests in research and innovation. The award provides financial assistance over a three-year period to Apiam and Nandi to fund industry project involvement.
Nandi is a wonderful example of how Apiam can provide employees unique opportunities and career paths across multiple clinics and states, whilst still being able to enjoy the many benefits of employment within Apiam.
