WA Team Update

The Portec veterinary team is growing with the newest addition of Dr Sam Boland, a recent graduate all the way from the University of Queensland. Sam has grown up in the Darling Downs region on broad acre cropping land and has a keen interest in population medicine and disease investigation of all production animals. She has spent the last 12 months working for the NSW Department of Primary Industries in Local Land Services. She joins the swine and poultry team with experience in livestock health, production and biosecurity. Make sure you say g’day to Sam when you see her around!

The veterinarians at Portec delivered six low stress pig handling sessions over a two-day period to staff at Linley Valley Abattoir, including lairage staff, QA personnel and on-site researchers. The classroom session was followed by a practical session observing the staff working with the pigs in lairage and implementing the techniques and skills learned in the classroom.

We are excited to announce that Nandi is currently working on the Portec succession plan and carrying her own small litter! Nandi is pregnant with twin boys expected mid-July. Congratulations to Nandi!
