The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary said, “A trend is a general direction in which a situation is changing or developing.” Perhaps not the most scientific source, but Wikipedia added to that, “A trend is a form of collective behaviour in which a group of people enthusiastically follow an impulse for a short period.”
