A team of scientists at the University of Saskatchewan and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are evaluating the use of computer vision technology to score skin lesions on pig carcasses. This would enable a more accurate assessment of differences in housing, pig interactions, transport and other factors at various farms that all directly affect pig welfare.
