Guidelines to harmonise animal welfare labelling systems

Labelling of food products like meat for animal welfare should not be based on the rearing conditions, says Anses, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety. An assessment based on scientific indicators measured directly at the animal level should be the foundation. Such a system should not only take account of the living conditions of the food-producing animals themselves, but of those of their parents as well.
